Korea, Republic will contest the women’s event at the 2018 BNP Paribas World Team Cup finals in Apeldoorn after beating Malaysia in successive ties on Thursday and Friday for an overall 2-0 victory at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Asian Qualification.

A Korean team will now contest the women’s event in the finals of the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis team competition for the 17thtime and for the first time since 2014, the year that Netherlands last hosted the BNP Paribas World Team Cup.

Japan go into Saturday’s third and last day of round-robin competition unbeaten in the men’s event in Colombo, Sri Lanka, after two wins from two ties.

Korea, Republic beat Malaysia

In Kyung Han opened the Korean women’s team’s challenge with a tentative 63 76(4) win over Malaysia’s vastly experienced Norisah Bahrom on Thursday before former world No. 7 Ju-Youn Park dominated the second singles rubber to defeat Nur Aqidah Zainuddin 60 60 and give Korea, Rep, an unassailable lead.

Come Friday’s second tie between the two nations and Han had much the better of her match against Bahrom, this time earning a 60 63 win. With Park once again beating Zainuddin 60 60, the Korean team wrapped up its second 3-0 win over Malaysia with a 60 60 win in the doubles rubber, too.

The result means that Korea, Rep., formerly a women’s multi-medallist in the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, will contest the finals of this year’s event for the first time in four years.
